RICHMOND ADDICTION SERVICES

Counselling

Our qualified and experienced Counsellors provide confidential individual, family and group counselling. The therapeutic and clinical work of our staff is guided and supervised by our Clinical Supervisor and Incumbent Executive Director, Richard L. Dubras, M.Sc., M.Ed. Richmond Addiction Services continues to believe in supporting and meeting a client where they are at when they present to our agency. We provide our services according to a client directed and informed approach (CDOI). This approach was pioneered by Richmond Addiction Services maintains a belief in meeting people where they are at in their lives when they come to our agency. We strive to understand what is most likely to work for each individual or family to enable them to reach their goals using an approach to human change that is both client-directed and outcome-informed (CDOI) that was pioneered by Scott Miller and Barry Duncan and can be researched through their different websites. Our clinical team has learned from decades of research about how change happens which tells us that often it is the clients' view that is more central to the possibilities of change than what the "experts" may think. Then it is by developing a strong therapeutic relationship and paying close attention to the week-by-week progress and making adjustments along the way that we increase the likelihood of success. One additional benefit of this philosophy is that we no longer have to restrict our viewpoint and fall into the debate of abstinence versus harm reduction because we allow our client to guide us in a collaborative relationship based on shared goals and treatment approaches.
